Hornsby is the commercial centre of the Shire of Hornsby which boundaries extend from Epping, in the south to Wisemans Ferry and Brooklyn in the north.
The town centre has undergone large changes in recent years with the building of Westfield Shopping Centre and a number of apartment buildings, transforming Hornsby into a vibrant retail and commercial centre.
A major rail link, where the north coast, the north shore and Strathfield rail lines meet Hornsby is also an important commuter destination. The station is currently being upgraded with extra platforms being added.
